Over the remaining weekends in the month of June, a fun, family-friendly and COVID-friendly event is taking place at the Pickering Museum Village, located in north Pickering, Ontario.
Entitled the Roaring 20’s Drive Thru, families can drive their own vehicle through the museum grounds while stopping at various designated stops along the way. When entering, vehicles are provided with an MP3 player that offers a recorded component to the tour. The audio recording mimics a radio broadcast from the 1920’s and offers information that is timed to coincide with each of the stops on the tour.
There are also actors who play out roles such as temperance officer and community renegade to add a virtual enactment element to the tour. The total run time is approximately one hour and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own vehicle the entire time.
I had a chance to experience the drive thru earlier this week and shot some footage with my camera while in the process. Please follow the link below to watch the 3 minute video recap on my You Tube Channel.
The Museum tour is connected to a larger local tourism initiative that featured 1920’s themed content. Other events include a 1920s automotive tour at the Canadian Automotive Museum, a 1920s Auto Barron tour at Parkwood Estate and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery 1920’s Photo Exhibit. All events are coordinated through Central Counties Tourism and are designed to promote local tourism initiatives in the Regions of Headwaters, York and Durham.
