The Dreaming Tree Brings Its Name to Life in Toronto

The Dreaming Tree Wines reiterates its commitment to the environment through partnership with Tree Canada

While the concept of sustainability is often associated with environmentalism, a truly sustainable initiative needs to also factor in economic and social aspects as well.  It only makes sense then that any corporate initiative marketed as ‘sustainable’ should be not only good for the environment, but good for business and good for society.

Yesterday, in the heart of Toronto, Ontario a press conference was held to announce details of a sustainable initiative that factors in all of these components.

Sean Mackenzie, Winemaker of Dreaming Tree Wines at Toronto Dreaming Tree Grove reveal

The Dreaming Tree Wines, in partnership with Tree Canada, has unveiled a Dreaming Tree Grove in the heart of Toronto. The Dreaming Tree Grove, a plant of 29 trees located in Trinity Bellwoods Park, is the result of the brand’s commitment to donate proceeds from every bottle of The Dreaming Tree wine sold in Canada to leading Canadian environmental organizations.

“We’re truly proud of our collaboration with The Dreaming Tree,” said Michael Rosen, President, Tree Canada. “A commitment of this kind to the environment not only has a positive impact on the future of the planet, but to Canadians coast-to-coast who benefit from these actions. We hope to continue our partnership going forward.”

The Dreaming Tree is a partnership between seasoned winemaker Sean McKenzie and singer-songwriter Dave Matthews, whose shared passion drives the brand. The Dreaming Tree’s vision is to provide a high-quality, environmentally conscious product to consumers. In addition to planting trees in communities that need re-forestation, The Dreaming Tree uses labels made with 100% recycled craft brown paper and lighter bottles to reduce fuel consumption.

“The environment is incredibly important to us, both as individuals and as a brand,” said Sean McKenzie, Winemaker, The Dreaming Tree. “From the day we pick the grapes to the night our wines are enjoyed, we put changes into motion that will make a difference. We’re excited to announce our partnership with Tree Canada, see first-hand the positive impact we’re able to have on the environment, and give back to the communities where we sell our products.”

Dreaming Tree Wines Crush Red and Chardonnay

Trinity Bellwoods Park was selected as a location for the Dreaming Tree Grove given its prime urban location, its popularity with area residents and most notably due to the fact that several mature Ash trees are set to be cut down due to the infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer.

Similar initiatives are set to be launched in Montreal and Vancouver in the coming weeks. Details as to specific financial commitments or the overall duration of the partnership were not announced.

The Dreaming Tree strives to create high quality wines that are fun, sociable, accessible and approachable. The brand showcases California’s growing regions and styles through wines such as its Crush, with its juicy raspberry flavours and full but soft and approachable tannins, and its Chardonnay, a crisp and elegant wine with fresh pear and white peach flavours.  Asked to share his thoughts about the wine, Dave Matthews said: “This is something I feel good about inviting someone over to share with me. It’s something to be proud of.”
