We can stop imagining now. Tesla has finally rolled off the covers of the highly anticipated Model 3.
And it might just change everything about how society at large views electric vehicles.
At a private reveal event tonight at the Tesla Design Centre, CEO Elon Musk revealed what he called the final stage of his master plan.
The Model 3, is a compact version of the highly successful Model S that will comfortably seat 5. Musk said the minimum expected E.P.A. driving range will be 215 miles (346 KM) and it will start at a base price of $35,000 USD.
Similar to the Model S, the 3 will also have a front and rear trunk. All Model 3’s will be equipped with Autopilot software and will include supercharging as standard.
Other unique features include a roof area that is one continuous pane of glass, and with respect to performance Musk claims that all versions of the Model 3 will go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds.
Elon Musk firmly believes that the Tesla Model 3 is a design that will be electrified powertrain vehicles to the masses, and based upon the fact that 115,000 people around the world placed a $1,000 deposit today without even seeing the car – chances are he might be right.
There is certainly more to come on this exciting launch but deliveries (for now) are slated to begin at the end of 2017.
